Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program
The Housing Choice Vouchers Program (formerly referred to as “Section 8”) is a federal government HUD program that subsidizes rents of eligible low-income households. Qualifying families are able to live within an NRMHA community property. They are also able to “port” their voucher which allows them to move anywhere in the country. It provides qualifying families with assistance in paying the monthly rental fee for homes and apartments that are located anywhere, not just in subsidized housing projects. In every major market in the country, it is administered locally by municipal public housing agencies (PHA’s), which certify the tenants and residences for participation in the program.
Information about the Housing Choice Vouchers Program, including eligibility requirements for both tenants and landlords’ residences, can be found on the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development website HERE
